PAO and surgical dislocation for a “Perthes” deformity in a 16 year old soccer athlete – A Dad’s perspective

Our daughter Breck is a 17 year old patient of Dr. John Clohisy at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Breck has dealt with Legg Calves Perthes disease since she was 9 years old. After initial surgery early on she struggled with the disease into her teens in terms of pain and flexibility in her hip. Finally after a very difficult and trying past couple of years she was referred to Dr. Clohisy last summer. He and his staff performed a cutting edge procedure that involved reconstructing her hip socket and reshaping the femur head. Following the rehab Breck immediately experienced a dramatic improvement in quality of life. She was able to compete at the varsity level in soccer this spring despite the hardware still in her hip. Our entire family is grateful for the care and dedication that Dr. Clohisy and his staff (love that Madelyn) has shown Breck. She is looking forward to a terrific and very active senior year.
