History and Evaluation: This 60 year old male senior soccer athlete presented with left hip pain for 2 ½ years. The patient was a professional soccer player in the past and maintained his activity in the sport as a senior player. He presented with marked pain which severely limited his activities including soccer. He wished to return to recreational soccer.
X-rays show advanced left hip arthritis with decreased joint space and cyst formation.
Treatment: Hip resurfacing was chosen instead of a hip replacement due to the patient’s high activity level and his desire to return to recreational soccer.
Outcomes: Patient doing extremely well and is pain free with no physical limitations.
